The water does pump, but it doesn't go very far out. Not much fun for little boys who love big splashes. You have to pump really hard to get water to move and a lot of it runs right back out the bottom. It hasn't broken yet, but then again, they don't play with it much because it doesn't work very well. We were all disappointed.
